Description

Why use polyester sealant Sinto Marine armed for ship repair?

In a nautical environment, the mechanical solicitations suffered by hulls, bridges and superstructures impose the use of reinforced refilling materials. Polyester armed sealant Sinto Marine combines a reactive polyester resin and a chopped glass fiber load, ensuring optimal structural cohesion on deep shocks and crushed walls.

Designed to cope with salt constraints and ambient moisture, it offers a remarkable grip on laminate polyester, metals in general (such as steel) and wood in an affected area. Its quick intake and dense consistency prevent pouring during applications on vertical surfaces such as edges or dead works.

Technical specifications

  • Product Type: Bi-component polyester sealant loaded with fiberglass
  • Area of application: Repair and filling fat defects above the waterline (dead works)
  • Compatible media: Polyester laminate, gelcoat, wood, metal
  • Drying / recovery time: Hardening in about 20 minutes (at 20 ° C) before dry sanding
  • Packaging / volume: Pot of 290 g (with hardener tube)
  • Color: White.
  • Cleaning tools: Acetone (before polymerization)
  • Manufacturer Part Number: 032300

Which user profile is for this armed sealant?

This product is used for both boaters who want to perform repairs on the bridge or the hull only to the shipyards and professional preparers in search of a quick-drying renovation composite renovation component. It mainly occurs during the surface preparation phases at the fairing prior to the application of the finishes.

On which surfaces use this product?

  • Polyester & laminate resin: Cases, bridges, chest hoods and glass-polyester superstructures.
  • Metal: Ecstillage parts, non-submerged metal structures.
  • Wood: Wood structure elements above the flotation line.
  • Aluminum: ACCASTILLING PARTS, COLS AND STRUCTURES IN ALUMINUM (Imperatively requires sharp sanding, careful degreasing and applying an adapted or epoxy primer primer to ensure adhesion).

Why choose the polyester sealant Sinto Marine?

  • High Structural Armor: The built-in glass fibers avoid removal and cracking on heavy thicknesses.
  • Keeping in marine conditions: Formulation resistant to freshwater infiltration, salt water and spray.
  • Fast shipyards: Accelerated hardening allowing to chain sanding and finishing layer in the same day.

Complementary products for your site

To achieve your renovation in the rules of the art, you can combine this product with a Finishing sealant for smoothing, use our Sanding material and preparation and protect your work with a fitting layer adapted as a finishing gelcoat or a Antifouling paint for hull.

In what cases use this repair sealant?

  • Rebuilding a through hole or deep crevice on the polyester borders.
  • Consolidation of an escapeillage zone torn off before drilling and resting the fasteners.
  • Filling deep splinters in the laminate following shocks against a dock or a pontoon.
  • Repair of corner cracks on chests, cockpits or cabins.

How to apply this product for optimal marine repair?

  1. Preparation of the support: Eliminate the damaged painting or gelcoat around the area. Sanding the area to be repaired to create a mechanical scratch. To convert, dust and degrease carefully with a cloth soaked with acetone.
  2. Dosage and mixture: Extract the necessary amount of putty. Incorporate the hardener up to about 2% (either a proportion equivalent to a hardener coffee grain for a teaspoon of putty). Mix homogeneously.
  3. Application: Apply firmly to the spatula or coating knife by penetrating the glass fibers at the bottom of the crack. Be sure to stop filling about 2 mm below the final level to anticipate the smoothing layer.
  4. Drying and sanding: Let polymerize about 20 minutes. Dry sanding P80 for Araser coarse fibers before moving to finishing sealant.

Professional trick

To ensure perfect adhesion on an aged polyester composite or resin, systematically perform acetone cleaning before and after sanding. This eliminates any trace of oil, molding wax or paraffin that could pollute the hook of the resin.

Error to avoid

Do not overdecate the hardener by thinking accelerate drying: an excess catalyst weakens the mass of the putty, causes yellowing and can block the polymerization. In addition, this armed sealant should not be applied directly into permanent immersion without first covering the repair of a finishing putty and a waterproof primer or gelcoat.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can we use the armed sealant under the flotation line (live works)?

The armed putty serves to rewind the mechanical mass. In submerged areas, it must be covered with an absolute sealing layer (epoxy / gelcoat primary type) to avoid any risk of resumption of moisture by capillarity along the fibers. The manufacturer prescribes it primarily for repairs above the waterline.

Can we apply gelcoat directly to the armed putty?

Due to the presence of glass fibers, the sanded surface of the armed putty has asperities. It is strongly recommended to apply a thin layer of finishing polyester sealant (not armed) to obtain a perfectly smooth surface before placing your gelcoat or your painting.

What is the waiting time before you can sand the sealant?

At an average ambient temperature of 20 ° C, the complete curing time is about 20 minutes. You can then immediately proceed with dry mechanical sanding.
